It had taken Miranda a year of searching just to find the entrance to the land of the Golden Sky. A year of opening dusty books and closing them again in frustration. A year of endless travel, of sleep broken into small pieces, of tears and terror. And through it all, a foreign child in her arms, whose skin shone gold in a way that human skin never could.
