Nathan jumped to his feet on instinct, wanting to protect Eric, but Eric threw out his hand. “Stay there!” he ordered, and the look on his face was entirely different. His gaze on Nathan was soft, imploring. It was the Eric Nathan knew. And it was enough to stop him in his tracks.

The guards fired.
