My July 2023 free author newsletter is now available!

This month’s article: A preview of my upcoming story The Case of the Man Who Wasn’t Dead, to appear in the anthology Sherlock is a Girl’s Name, from Clan Destine Press.

Good news for Holmes fans: Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved character is now in the public domainClan Destine Press is celebrating by publishing an anthology of stories of a woman-identifying Sherlock Holmes. My story The Case of the Man Who Wasn’t Dead features Sherlock as a modern-era medium who solves the murders of the dead with the help of her spirit guide (aka supernatural secretary), Jane Watson, a nurse who died in 1944.

So, could I get a picture for the article?’ the reporter asked.

‘Sorry, no.’ Sherlock clicked the box to leave the meeting.

'You don’t have to be so rude,’ Jane said. The light from the kitchen window didn’t affect her, didn’t set her red curls aglow or brighten her pale skin. But she was unfailingly lovely all the same, in that white sundress, with her hair swept back from her face and her lips bright red. If Jane were alive today, Sherlock thought, she’d probably be a fan of glitter lipstick, going around looking like she’d kissed one of Dorothy’s ruby slippers.

Sherlock did attempt not to make a habit of thinking about Jane Watson kissing things.
